Shaniwarwada: Several hundred Puneites from all walks of life converged on the Shaniwarwada grounds on Thursday evening to wish Sakal, the flagship Marathi newspaper from the Sakal Media Group, on its 83rd birthday. City youth, who attended the event in large numbers, made their presence felt during the celebrations.
Sakal Media Group Managing Director Abhijit Pawar, Director Mrunal Pawar, along with city-based college students from the Young Inspirators Network (YIN) cut a 83 kilogram cake.
Later, the duo, along with Pratap Pawar, Chairman of the Sakal Media Group, released balloons in the air as a part of the celebrations.
Both Pratap Pawar and Abhijit Pawar accepted the good wishes of the people who had assembled in large numbers at the function. Sakal Media Group Chief Editor Shriram Pawar was also present.
Politicians, including legislators and corporators of various political parties, prominent personalities from education, industrial and social sectors and hundreds of Sakal readers from Pune and other places were also present.

Prominent among those present included Pune Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar, Shiv Sena MP from Shirur Shivaji Adhalrao Patil, Chairman of Kinetic Group Arun Firodia, Congress city unit president Abhay Chhajed, Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University WN Gade, artist Ravi Paranjape, Wadgaonsheri BJP MLA Jagdish Mulik, Congress MLC Mohan Joshi, former city MP Suresh Kalmadi and former MLA Ramesh Bagwe among others.
