The second day of the mega play Jaanata Raja based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj witnessed the presence of hundreds of drama lovers. The five-day mega play of Maratha empire has tales of Shivaji Maharaj and his kingdom.

Performed by 150 artistes, the play started on Wednesday at HA Ground in Pimpri and will be staged till November 13.

The special guest for Thursday’s event was Chairman of Pimpri-Chinchwad Education Trust Dnyaneshwar Landge, who performed the ‘aarti’ along with the Trust’s Secretary VS Kalbhor and Treasurer Shantaram Garade.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalbhor said, “The play is really grand and I can understand the efforts taken to make it happen. Plays like this help the young generation to understand our history, traditions and culture. The frequency of the play should increase.”

The play has been recreated by the Maharaja Chhatrapati Shivaji Trust and it has been organised by Sakal Media Group.

The three-and-half-hour long play depicts the conditions of the Maratha empire before the birth of Shivaji till conquering of all forts by him to the rise of Maratha empire. The play also portrays the significance of Jijamata’s role in Shivaji Maharaj’s life and moulding him to be a good leader.

One of the visitors at the play, Jayshankar Patil, who had come with his family, said, “Plays generally are not held in Pimpri Chinchwad, so I am really happy that Sakal Media Group this year decided to bring Jaanata Raja here.”
