In view of the severe drought situation in Marathwada and other parts of Maharashtra, the Puneites have come forward to help the children of farmers studying in Pune. This move came soon after the Sakal Media Group (SMG) highlighted the plight of these students.

The Pravin Masalewale Trust has decided to pay for meals of 61 drought-hit students for the next six months. The cheque for the aid was presented in the presence of Shri. Prataprao Pawar, Chairman, Sakal Media Group; Mr. Rajkumar Chordia, Chairman, Pravin Masalewale; Mr. Nandkumar Sutar, Executive Editor, Sakal Media Group and Mr. Uddhav Bhadsalkar, Senior Manager, Sakal Social Foundation.

Students also spoke about the problems being faced by drought-affected families and the circumstances they go through. They  praised the efforts of the Sakal Media Group for providing financial help and a platform to speak about their problems.

Mr. Rajkumar Chordia said, “After reading the plight of these students, I thought about the problems they will face in the coming months. Hence, I decided to help them. Help is not favour but a responsibility. We are helping with a view that the students should not suffer and should not give up their education. Students should grow to become successful and also help their villages prosper.”

Mr. Prataprao Pawar encouraged students to not lose faith in such circumstances. He gave an example of Mr. Patil from drought-affected Osmanabad, who worked hard to be the owner of three hotels in Paris and how Mr. Deshmukh from Latur fought against all odds to succeed in the vegetable market in Pune.

According to Mr. Pawar, “Although, there are many challenges, we need to think out of the box and find solutions to the crisis. He assured the students that the Sakal Media Group will always help the students.
