Farmers should be enabled to use Modern Technology: Mr. Vikas Deshmukh

According to Mr. Vikas Deshmukh, Agriculture Commissioner, Maharashtra, “There are plans to establish an ‘Agricultural Technology Counselling and Facilitation Centre’ to enable the use of technology and modern equipment by farmers. There is no option but to use technology for agriculture. However, there are no facilities in the villages to explain the intricacies of these technologies. This is the main reason behind the lack of usage of modern equipments. Hence, we are planning to establish an Agricultural Technology Counselling and Facilitation Centre in the near future.”

Mr. Deshmukh was speaking at the Agriculture Information Festival organised by Sakal International Learning Centre (SILC) on Thursday.

The list of dignitaries present at this event includes Dr. Sudhirkumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture & Marketing, Govt. of Maharashtra, Mr. Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group, Dr. Apoorva Palkar, CEO, SILC and Dr. B.B. Ahuja, Director, College of Engineering, Pune.

Appreciating the ‘Smart Village’ initiative undertaken by Sakal Media Group, Mr. Vikas Deshmukh further stretched on topics such as importance of storage of rainwater, using water carefully for agriculture and improving the quality of land for revival of the agricultural prospects in the State. He added, “Maximum land can be brought under irrigation only if we use water in a more responsible manner.”
